Wearing gloves to protect yourself from COVID-19 can do more harm than good.
As the coronavirus pandemic progressed rapidly, so did the safety guidelines. Initially, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommended that the general public wear face masks to protect themselves against COVID-19. Now, face masks are everywhere (and there are plenty of cute options to choose from).
While the initial recommendation not to wear face masks was largely influenced by the shortage of medical face masks, the CDC eventually recognized that cloth masks and covers help prevent the spread of respiratory drops, the primary way in which disseminates COVID-19. That’s part of the reason they switched gears in early April, asking people to put cloth on their faces, particularly in crowded areas like public transportation, supermarkets, and outdoor markets.
